A major religious fair in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Nanda Devi Mela is a way of respecting the state's most beloved goddess and is an ideal place to see the glimpse of rural traditional art and crafts.One of the major festivals in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Nand Devi Mela, is organized in remote places like Johor, Almora, Nainital, Bageshwar, Bhowali and Coat. Fair (fair) is organized every year in the month of September. Almora is the place where the main fair is organized. Nanda Devi Mela, also known as Nanda Devi Mahotsav, has been celebrated as the few kings ruled with its duration for 5 days or 7 days.The fair is usually around the festival of Nandashtami, which is celebrated in some parts of the state.
According to legend, Nanda Devi was the family goddess of the Chand kings of the Kumaon region. In the 17th century, King Diet Chand built the temple of Nanda Devi in Almora. Thus, since then, Nanda Devi Mela is organized every year to worship the goddess of Kumaon, Nanda Devi and it is a symbol of economic and cultural prosperity of this region.People participate in the procession, in which Nanda Devi and her sister are Sunanda's Dola (Panquin).
The fair is generally held around the sanctuary of Nanda Devi. With folk songs and dance, a huge market where handmade products and village crafts are sold locally, can be seen near the temple.Along with the Kumaun and Garhwal areas of Uttarakhand, devotees from other states of India come here to participate in the fair. During the fair in the Kumaon region, Nanda Devi is also worshiped in Chamoli district of Garhwal region.

- On the last day of the fair, danda (palanquin) of Nanda and Sunanda Devi is done to be immersed in water.
